Kruger National Park

This National park is our most famous in Southern Africa; it stretches from North to South in the N/East corner of the Limpopo Province. The Kruger National park was established by Paul Kruger, the president of the Republic of South Africa, (1883 till 1900)To this day the park has been acclaimed as one of the best examples of a wildlife management area.

Lying in the heart of the Lowveld is a wildlife sanctuary like no other. This narrow strip of land covering nearly 2 million hectares (20 000 square kilometres) and stretch for 352 kilometres from north to south along the Mozambique border. This is the land of baobabs, fever trees, knob thorns, marula and mopane trees, and is also known as a savannah region. There are six permanent sources of water running through this park, they are known as the Olifants, Letaba, Crocodile, Luvuvhu, Sabie and Shingwedzi rivers.

The Kruger is divided into no fewer than six ecosystems - Baobab Sandveld, Lebombo knob thorn-marula bushveld, mixed acacia thicket, Combretun-silver cluster leaf, woodland on granite, and Riverine forest. The valleys are home to trees rarely found in other parts of the park, such as the Cape chestnut, coral tree and lavender fever-berry. This in turn provides an important eco-system for the wild life that naturally occurs in the Kruger Park. There are plenty of bush pig in the undergrowth of the Luvuvhu River and on most of the river banks you can hope to see sizeable herds of elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, bushbuck, impala and kudu concentrated near a water supply. The Letaba and Olifants Rivers contain as much as 60% of the park's hippo population, and bird life here abounds.

There are 14 camps in the Kruger Park which consist of either brick & thatch or tented accommodations, with en-suite facilities. Restaurants are available to the public and offer some traditional dishes of Africa.

Three to Five days is suggested for the perfect Kruger Tour.
