The battlefields of yesteryear where many battles where fought for this beautiful, rich stretch of land. Dropping down the escarpment from Piet Retief into Pongola you will see a great deal of agriculture, namely sugar cane fields, pineapples, bananas etc.
From here you will start seeing thick sand forest area where you will find indigenous Nyala, Red Duiker and the elusive Suni and many more species occurring here. This area has an abundance of Black Rhino and Buffalo.
The famous Umfolozi Game Reserve is situated in the Northern Part of Natal. The Indian Ocean is the Eastern boundary where our famous Deep Sea fishing is the order of the day. Snow-capped in winter, the Drakensberg runs lengthwise on the Western Boundary of Natal and is this country's grandest mountain range, known to the people as Quathlamba, meaning "the barrier of spears", adorned with Stone Age Cave Paintings and where eagles and bearded vultures fly.
