Marakele National Park Tour
As its Tswana name suggests, has become a 'place of sanctuary' This is one of our newer National Parks in South Africa and is only 10 minutes from Thabazimbi. Located in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa, the park boasts with majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys as well as the Big Five and has a look-out tower that is 7 920 foot high.
The breathtaking Waterberg Mountains form part of this 57 000 hectare park where the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures (more than 800 breeding pairs) in the world, have settled. African Elephant - while some Elephant had been previously reintroduced into the park, it was the release of the Tuli Elephants in 1999 that captured people's imagination.
Resident antelope include, Sable, Tsessebe, Waterbuck, Kudu, Eland, Impala, and many smaller species like Reedbuck, Mountain Reedbuck can be found here.
This beautiful park supports 765 plant species of which the rare Yellowwood and Cedar trees abound.
Seasons : Summers (Oct-Mar) are hot but does not suffer from humidity. The park is situated in the summer rainfall region and rainfall occurs in the form of heavy thunderstorms or soft rain. Winter (May-Aug) is moderate with frost occurring in the low lying regions only. Mornings and nights can be cold, but day temperatures are pleasant.
